About the Presenter
Michelle J. Richards, Ph.D. has conducted numerous seminars at national, state, and local conferences. She's conducted many in-service talks on a variety of issues for hospital staff. Topics have included ethics, multicultural sensitivity, military families, and emotional intelligence. CEUs have been provided to LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, and LMSWs.
As faculty at a university, Dr. Richards developed over 15 courses in family therapy, counseling, family studies, and child development. In addition, Dr. Richards developed courses using distance learning techniques. She has supervised over 100 practicum students.
For over 25 years, she's worked with challenging client populations including trauma survivors and high conflict couples. These groups put her at higher risk for professional burnout. Once she learned prevention strategies, she began teaching them to others.
Dr. Richards has coached soldiers, marines, and their families stateside and overseas. She has lead seminars on stress, anger management, and PTSD for service members. Dr. Richards used her knowledge of the military to engage and gain credibility with these military service members. She assessed marines’ reintegrations and referred them for services when warranted. In addition, she counseled couples on issues related to reintegration and PTSD.
